Appointment process

The Governor-General appoints the NACC Inspector, by written instrument, on the Attorney-General’s recommendation.

Before making a recommendation to the Governor-General, the Attorney-General must seek the approval of the Parliamentary Joint Committee on the NACC.

On 30 March 2023, the Governor-General appointed Ms Gail Furness SC as the inaugural NACC Inspector on a part-time basis.

Ms Furness SC has been appointed for 7 years, commencing 1 July 2023.
